Hebrews 6:19-20

19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order ofMelchizedek.

"An anchor is adevice, normally made of metal, used to connect a vessel to the bed of a bodyof water to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or current."(Wikipedia)

What is the writer of Hebrewssaying is our anchor of the soul?

1.     the unchangeable character of his purpose (vs. 17)

2.     it is impossible for God to lie (vs. 18)

When you gotborn again, your spirit was anchored, born again, and made new.

Your soul, which consists of your mind, will, and emotions, is very prone to drifting. Youmust anchor your mind. You must anchor your will. You must anchor youremotions. If we do not anchor ourselves, even a gentle breeze can quickly turninto an unprecedented storm.

Acts 27:9-20

Since much time had passed, and the voyage was now dangerousbecause even the Fast (the Day of Atonement) was already over, Pauladvised them10 saying, “Sirs, I perceive thatthe voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo andthe ship, but also of our lives.”

God sends a Word (Anchor), soyou do not have to ask for a miracle.

That Word ismeant to be an Anchor for your life to keep you from drifting into a storm thatwill take you a miracle to get out of alive.

Many of usask God to give "a Word" for the year;

Health,Finances, Marriage, Godly Kids, Deliverance, etc.

When Godgives you a Word for the year, it is supposed to be an Anchor to keep you fromdrifting into dangerous and unseen situations.

I am alwaysamazed at the size of the anchor in comparison to the boat. (Boat Trip)

It doesn't have to be a bigword; it only has to be a received word.

11 But the centurion paid more attention to the pilot and to theowner of the ship than to what Paul said.12 And because the harborwas not suitable to spend the winter in, the majority decided to put outto sea from there, on the chance that somehow they could reach Phoenix, aharbor of Crete, facing both southwest and northwest, and spend the winterthere.

It is not about what you’rehearing but what you are hearing the most.

It is not that you are not havinga time with God each day. It is not that you’re not hearing Him; you are justnot hearing Him the most.

If you’ve been on social media, you have probably caught yourself drifting.

You glance at it for a second then20 minutes have passed. We say we worship God, but our screen time never hasthe Bible App at the top of our list.

13 Now when the south wind blew gently, supposing that they hadobtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close tothe shore. 14 But soon a tempestuous wind, calledthe northeaster, struck down from the land. 15 Andwhen the ship was caught and could not face the wind, we gave way to it andwere driven along. 16 Running under the lee of asmall island called Cauda, we managed with difficulty to secure the ship'sboat.

How quickly does the gentlebreeze turn onto the northeaster?

God gives us a word to anchor usfrom the impeding northeaster that we never saw coming.

Arrogance is the greatest fromdisobedience. Arrogance -choosing the direction contrary to the Word (rhema and logos) the HolySpirit is giving you

Obedience to the Word of God(rhema and logos) is His favor on your life.

17 After hoisting it up, they used supports to undergird the ship. Then, fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered thegear, and thus they were driven along. 18 Since we wereviolently storm-tossed, they began the next day to jettison thecargo. 19 And on the third day they threw theship's tackle overboard with their own hands. 20 Whenneither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, allhope of our being saved was at last abandoned.

Now we see the difference.

When we are anchored, we have ahope that brings us into the holiest place where Jesus went before us.

Hebrews 6:19-20

19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf

When we are not anchored, weabandon all hope of being saved.

20 When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no smalltempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.

The grace of God is when hesends a word before you need it.

What areas ofour life have we let drift from the Word (rhema and logos) God has given us.

It is time tothrow the anchor and quit drifting.
